HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 29

Commemorating the passing of Clifford Summers, Gentleman, Naval
Officer, Agriculturalist and past member of the House of
Delegates;
Whereas, Clifford Summers was born on May 11, 1915 and spent
his youthful years on farms in Lewis and Upshur Counties, where he
cultivated an interest in agriculture and forestry; and
Whereas, Clifford Summers graduated from West Virginia
University in the first forestry class in 1939; and
Whereas, Clifford Summers served in the United States Navy
during WWII as a communications officer, and later as a Lieutenant
Commander, thereafter remaining in the Naval Reserves until his
retirement; and
Whereas, Clifford Summers served with honor and integrity in
this House for one term after being elected in 1987; and
Whereas, Clifford Summers' greatest interest was the success of
this great state; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That regret is hereby expressed by the members at the passing
of Clifford Summers, Gentleman, Naval Officer, Agriculturalist and past member of the House of Delegates; a man who served his country
and state, and above all, yearned for the success of this great
State; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates is
hereby directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to VFW Post
No. 7, the County Commission in Upshur County and, to his son Gary
W. Summers of Buckhannon, West Virginia.
